Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Tokyo, Japan; President Michihiro Kitazawa) is pleased to announce that it has begun mass production of HPnC*1 equipped with seventh-generation X-series IGBT*2 modules for the railway market.

The future power rail market is expected to grow at an average rate of 6% per year, reaching approximately 5 to 60 billion yen in 2023.

Fuji Electric has launched the seventh-generation X-series IGBT module, HPnC, which contributes to energy conservation in railway transportation, and plans to promote it globally.
HPnC has three major characteristics:
1. Realize energy saving by reducing power loss
Compared with traditional products, HPnC reduces the internal inductance that interferes with high-speed switching by 76%. Inverters equipped with new HPnC can reduce power loss during operation by about 8.6%, which reduces heat generation and reduces size By 19%, the weight is reduced by 13%.
2. The substrate material has been reviewed and has higher reliability
Unlike traditional aluminum and silicon carbide (AlSiC) composite materials, the substrate material of HPnC is a magnesium and silicon carbide (MgSiC) composite material, which improves heat dissipation and reduces stress caused by thermal changes. In addition, unlike the solder joints in conventional modules, the terminals of the new module are connected to the insulating substrate by ultrasonic bonding*4. As a result, the failure rate will be greatly reduced.

3. Convenient for parallel connection of power semiconductors
By optimizing the terminal arrangement of this product, three types of bus bars can be arranged in the same direction, which makes it easy to realize the parallel (multi-channel) connection of power semiconductors and helps improve the assembly of various inverters.
