Our program of work on the GTO clamped assemblies consisted of the following; a full disassembly of the clamps, a thorough clean of all components and the removal of excess oil debris, disposal of the original semiconductor devices and the replacement with modern-day equivalents, oil replacement and final assembly testing using our in-house dedicated test equipment before returning to Brush Traction for operational use.

In supporting the Brush Traction refurbishment project, we were able to provide obsolescence management for this mature fleet, ensuring long-term UK based support for spares and maintenance for the class of 92 locomotive. The vehicles were returned to service powering the Caledonian sleeper from London to Edinburgh, as well as on freight operations.

The full overhaul and reinstatement of this power unit is the last in a series of successful programs of work performed at Dynex, providing power semiconductor mid-life refurbishment for reliability improvement and preventative maintenance.With a typical lifespan of 40 years, the rolling stock industry are facing an increasing demand for mid-life upgrades for dated traction power and control electronic equipment.

Dynex has a 40 year history of providing power electronics to the traction industry, many of which are still operational today. Using our proprietary knowledge of the wear out mechanisms associated with the power semiconductors and clamp assemblies provided, Dynex can offer an assessment of the likely health of semiconductors in application, as well as providing a feasibility report on the current availability of equivalent parts for replacement or spare stock.
